While at Sea World a very wise lady told us a story at the last day of training. I often thing about it when I'm feeling down or exhausted after a long day working with kids.
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing sea stars back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles of beach and hundreds of sea stars? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another sea star, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said
“I made a difference for that one.”

School Programs
Everyday we have programs at the Exploration Center. This is a critters/beach exploration program where they learn about the animals at the EC and then go outside to explore the beach. Its great to see the kid's reaction when they find something cool on the beach!

My life recently
I have been extremely busy here in Newport, RI. My work with Save the Bay is slowly coming to an end.. at the end of august. It has been rewarding and a great learning experience in the world of environmental education. My main mission was to create a Girl and Boy scout program for our education program. And I DID IT!! It is now on the website and we have a growing awareness of the programs.
You can see my work at savebay/scouts.
